‍Heinz, a handsome, gentle stallion born in 1990, quietly chose to lay down for his final rest on September 12, 2026. He was named after Dr. Heinz Heck, Jr., zoological director of the Catskills Game Farm from 1959, nephew of Heinz and son of Lutz who together bred the first Heck Tarpans in Germany. Brought by Helen Dixon to Dixie Meadows Farm at the closure of Catskills Game Farm in New York in 2005, Heinz sired other Tarpan horses and lived the last decade of his life close to his mare friends Dixie Sue and Catskills Basha.
